Anjan Dutta Band

Anjan Dutt started his career as a theatre director in Calcutta in the 70’s. He has directed, translated and acted in numerous plays by important European playwrights like Brecht, Sartre, Buchner, Peter Weiss. He went to Berlin to work with a German theatre company, ‘Theatremanufactur’.


He began as an actor with filmmaker Mrinal Sen in the early 80’s. His first feature film ‘Chaalchitra’. Directed by Mrinal Sen won him the Best Debut at the Venice Film Festival in 1980.  Since then he has acted in feature films directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Goutam Ghose, Aparna Sen, Nicolas Klotz (France) and Roland Joffe (U.S.A).

He directed his first feature film ‘Bada Din’ in Hindi in 1997, starring Shabana Azmi and Marc Robinson. His second feature film ‘Bow Barracks Forever ‘starring Lillette Dubey & Victor Banerjee released in 2007 for which Lillette Dubey won the best actress award at Madrid Film Festival. The film was screened at Munich Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival, IFFI (Goa), MAMI (Mumbai).
He just completed his third feature film ‘The Bong Connection’ (English- Bengali),(2007) was a roaring success at the box office. The Bong Connection was screened at Dubai International Film Festival, MAMI (Mumbai), Museum Of Modern Arts (New York), IFFI (Goa), Osians Film Fest.
His next feature film ‘Chalo Let’s Go’(Bengali) was also a a super hit at the box office. His forthcoming films are BBD (Hindi), and Chowrasta, Crossroads of love (English).
